Answer is YES but I wouldn't recommend it unless you Absolutely have to get your trains running. Hit links below for pics. They are quite large so be patient.
Picture 1 shows the city end of the layout before the mainline was finished. Hit the layout plan page and move your mouse over the lower right area of the plan. That is what you are seeing in this pic. Taking the pic, I am standing next to the main yard benchwork.
Picture 2 shows the main area of the layout room. The track in the closest forground of the picture is the entrance to the now completed tall trestle as can be seen in the pic. Question... What do you do when you have to stay in the room so the dog will eat? Answer.. You build a big bridge. Said bridge is in the back underneath the window.
Picture 3 shows the the area where the engine facilities will be built. For ease of installing the ceiling, the benchwork is removed.
Installing the ceiling AFTER the benchwork was installed gave me the opertunity to really test the access hatches. Bottom line is they all work as they should and I also found I had to add a couple more.
